Two things you can count on in Southern California during the summer months are devastating wild fires and needless deaths caused by infant drowning. I grew up in Arizona and practically lived in the pool. It was the first thing my friends and I did when we got home from school and to my mother’s dismay, it was the first thing my sisters and I wanted to do after opening Christmas presents (it’s December and too hot for the fireplace!
). My youth was filled with swim parties, swim team, and endless games of Marco-Poloooooo?? I thought everyone just knew how to swim?
This is a great video (wmv) on how crossfit is helping drown-proof infants and children. For those of you that don’t know, “Jeremy” was the three year old son of friends of the Glassmans who died in a drowning accident in 2006.
Diso mentioned possibly doing a 200 meter ocean swim this Saturday during beach volleyball day. Still not sure if I’ll do it, but knowing I can is something I have surely taken for granted. I can’t think of a better way to feel like a kid again on Christmas morning! Anyone else in?
