Both the Bear Crawl and the Broad jump are classic field drills.  Just because we do not see them often doesn’t preclude their usefulness to our training or your fitness.  Have fun with it!  Having done a few WODs with broad jumps, the burpee rule is a great incentive to jump far each time.

Now that the 2 week Zone Education experience is behind us, we should like to solicit the highlights of your experience with it.  I’ve long wondered whether I could actually weigh and measure my food for 2 weeks with the same rigor as my original 2 weeks back in March 2008.  I fell off during the weekend to be sure, but aside from that it felt great to eat with that kind of precision again.  I lost 5 lbs, PR’d in the Back Squat, Front Squat, and Deadlift (where I’ve been stuck for almost a year), and moved faster and lighter during every WOD I did.

The first few days were challenging, but nothing I haven’t been through before.  Trying to get most of my carb blocks from fruits and veggies is hard, time consuming, and costly, but well worth it to me, and if there’s a time constraint, I found myself planning and prepping well in advance.  If that failed, I had ‘go to’ meals that serve well in a pinch.  After a week and a half, I found myself wondering why I would ever want to go OFF this thing that makes me feel like a million bucks.

I know not all of your 2 weeks reflect this kind of joy.  Some cons of it were, I learned it’s probably unrealistic to sustain pure weighing and measuring 100 percent of the time for longer than 5 days in a row, especially with fruits and veggies.  Also, social gatherings are hard core gut checks.  If I’ve decided to Zone hard, I know I will, but most of the time I go into those things knowing I’ve got consecutive days worth of strict meals behind me and I can ride the ‘hormonal interest’ of those strict days, cheat with pleasure, and come out relatively unscathed.  But those are the only 2 chief cons I’ve got with the thing.  Finely tuned, the benefits are just too great and overwhelming for me to waver too much or too often.

Please post your pros, cons, and what you learned from your 2 weeks, to comments.  Are you able to ‘eyeball’ with reasonable accuracy?

Is this something you would ever do again?  Do you see food in a different light?
