“A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.” – Albert Einstein
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” -Robert A. Heinlein
The above clips are from a series of films called “Alone in the Wilderness” about the life of Dick Proenneke. Watching this footage stirs up a lot of emotion for me. I think about how much I do not know and how much I take for granted. I think about how far removed we are from the hard work our bodies were designed to perform and the feeling of something missing in our lives. I am thankful for discovering CrossFit and the beauty of hard work. I am excited about the future. This is what we were born to do.
