It is amazing to think that before CrossFit there was no real definition of Fitness.  I searched google and found this answer: Good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition. But what is considered good physical condition, what is proper nutrition?  It depends who you ask right?

This was the first obstacle that the founder of CrossFit encountered when he began to develop his own fitness program, he had to create a definition for fitness that could be supported with data and withstand the rigors of science.  The answer did not come right away, but he began to develop an idea through three models of fitness:  Balance at the 10 General Physical Skills, Balance among the 3 metabolic pathways and the Hopper model.  Two of the models are written up on the big whiteboard above the office and the third is what you go through every day in the WOD!

Watch the video for a great breakdown of each model and how it helped to develop the definition of fitness.

  Enjoy!
